UWC Orlando and Cocoa Now Recruiting for Fall 2013

The UWC Orlando and the BCC-UCF Writing Center are currently recruiting new tutors to begin fall 2013. UCF students, both undergraduate and graduate, are encouraged to apply. BCC students are also encouraged to apply for the Cocoa location. In particular, we're seeking tutors from various majors and language backgrounds. Faculty: Refer Students to the UWC

The UWC now offers an easy way for faculty to refer students to us for ongoing writing development. Referred students can meet with the same consultant at a regularly-scheduled time each week during the semester, to focus not merely on fixing a single piece of writing, but on building skills for future writing tasks.

"Why Writing Matters" Public Reading

March 19 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the University Writing Center (105 Colbourn).

To honor UCF's 50th Anniversary, the UWC invites you to a public reading of entries to the recent "Why Writing Matters" writing contest. The entries address--in 500 words or less--WHY writing matters to the author. Writers explore this question through various genres, considering writing for multiple purposes, audiences, and situations.

Dr. Jose Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts & Humanities, will announce the winners and present prizes.

Class Presentation Requests

UCF faculty can request a presentation from a Writing Center representative who will provide a brief presentation about UWC services. Please visit our Faculty Resources page and specify whether your location is in Cocoa, Daytona, Orlando, or Rosen.

UWC via Adobe Connect

The UWC offers Adobe Connect as an online consultation mode, so you can meet with a consultant from anywhere.

From any computer with internet access, you should be able to:

• Speak with your consultant via audio connection
• Revise your paper along with your consultant via screen sharing
• Have instant access to our handouts and other resources

We strongly recommend using a headset with attached microphone for Adobe Connect consultations. If you don’t have a headset and microphone, you can get full audio on our Connect Consultation Station on the UCF Daytona Beach campus.
